Cavatina Duo
The Cavatina Duo—flutist Eugenia Moliner (Spain) and guitarist Denis Azabagic (Bosnia)—has established itself as one of the premier flute and guitar duos in the world. Their performances have captivated audiences globally, earning them critical acclaim for their virtuosity, artistry, and dynamic interpretations.
"Moliner is a flautist of tonal purity and dexterity who brings consummate taste to every phrase in tandem with Azabagic’s glistening guitar… the disc finds the duo at the height of their musical powers." — Gramophone
They have performed in major venues worldwide, including the National Performing Arts Center of China, Tchaikovsky Hall in Moscow, Ravinia Festival in Chicago, Da Camera Society in Los Angeles, and Aix-en-Provence Summer Festival in France.
Eugenia Moliner has been praised as “an artist of the highest caliber” (Flute Talk). She has appeared as a soloist with the Lanyang Symphony, Chicago Sinfonietta, and Camerata Serbica and has collaborated with leading flutists an ensembles, including Stefan Ragnar Höskuldsson and Mathieu Dufour, the Avalon and Pacifica Quartets, and the Aspen Trio. Her discography of 13 albums includes her latest with piano, Song to the Moon, featuring works by Mahler, Schubert, and Medtner.
Denis Azabagic, recognized for his “flawless technique and profound musical insight” (Soundboard), has won 24 international competitions and performed as a soloist with orchestras and ensembles, such as the Chicago Symphony and Madrid Symphony, Cuarteto Casals, Avalon and Pacifica Quartets as well as Music Now Chicago. His extensive discography includes 17 CDs and two DVDs, and he is widely respected for his book on performance anxiety, which has become a valuable resource for musicians.
The duo has significantly expanded the flute and guitar repertoire with nearly 30 commissions from some of today’s most compelling composers. Their 11 recordings showcase this commitment to new music, including Sephardic Journey (with the Avalon Quartet, Cedille Records, 2016), Folias and Fantasias (Alan Thomas’s reimagining of Telemann’s 12 Fantasias, Bridge Records, 2020), and their latest release, River of Fire (Cedille Records, 2025), a collaboration with the GRAMMY-winning Pacifica Quartet featuring works inspired by Gypsy music.
Their 2024–25 season includes masterclasses and concerts across the United States and Europe, with appearances at the Chamber Music America Convention in Houston, Granada Guitar Festival, Valencia Chamber Music Series, St. Louis CGS, Atlanta University, Chamber Series in Oak Ridge, and the Chicago Guitar Festival. Their influence is further reflected in cover features and interviews in Ritmo, Scherzo, and Chamber Music America magazines.
Beyond the stage, they are faculty at the University of Illinois at Chicago and artistic directors of the Festival Juan Gual Esteve in Spain and the Chicago Guitar Festival.
